ProTip: Use Barcode Scanning to Populate Your Mobile Form Fields

Easily scan barcodes and QR codes directly from digital forms on mobile devices

Barcode Scanning can be used to significantly streamline data entry, especially when completing documents like digital inventory forms, digital equipment inspections, and online customer surveys.

How to add Barcode Scanning to your mobile forms

To add Barcode Scanning to your mobile forms, log in to GoFormz from a computer and open the Template you wish to edit. Next:

  1. Drag-and-drop a Barcode field from the Template Fields panel onto your Template and adjust its size and location accordingly.

  2. Save your changes.

How to use Barcode Scanning to auto-populate Data Source information

With GoFormz, it’s easy to add Barcode Scanning to your digital forms and connect them to Data Sources to instantly populate corresponding fields with relevant information, like SKU numbers, product names, location information, and more:

  1. Login to GoFormz from a computer and open your Template in the Template Editor.

  2. Drag-and-drop a Barcode field from the Template Fields panel onto your Template and adjust its size and location accordingly.

  3. Locate and select the field you wish to populate with data resulting from the scanned Barcode. For this example, we’ll select a Number field where we would like the price of a product to appear.

  4. In the Properties panel, locate your Number field’s Default Value and enter the following syntax: =database("Datasourcename", [KeyField], "Column Header"). This syntax instructs the Number field to use the Key Field for the database lookup and populate with the corresponding value from the column specific in Column Header. In this example, the Key Field will be the product’s name, while the Column Header will reference the price of our product.

  5. Save your changes.

Now, when a user fills out a form based on this Template, they will be able to scan the Barcode of a product and instantly populate its price.
